Limbo is a single player, puzzle-plat former game in which the player plays a nameless little boy who awakens on the ground of a dark forest floor. The boy's main goal is to find his sister. While searching for her, he encounters obstacles such as a giant spider, other children (or people), and has to maneuver and work around and evade objects to move onto the next step of his journey. The first level the player starts out In the dark forest, and moves on to more mechanical settings as his journey pushes on. In the forest he runs from a giant man-eating spider, and in the more mechanical settings he is attacked in the head by brain slugs hanging from above. Also in the mechanical settings, he has to work around certain objects in order to get to high or lower places. Sometimes there's a time limit to a certain areas. The player has to work quickly and efficiently to escape the area before they drown, get shocked, or fall.
This creepy and odd puzzle game can be played on the Xbox 360 (XBLA), PlayStation 3 (PSN), and Microsoft Windows (Steam). The small and short game was created by a private independent video game company called Playdead. It is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was founded by Arnt Jensen and Dino Patti in 2006. Giant Bomb said "The game is a masterpiece", and gave it a 5/5. "Limbo is a genius. Freaky, weird genius. Disturbing, uncomfortable genius" rambled The Escapist, and gave it a nice 10/10 for the arcade game. Others such as the Joystiq and Destructoid had also given the odd and dark puzzle game a great 10/10. |
